Tucked along the Pocono Mountain Lake Region, lies the 3rd largest freshwater lake in the state of Pennsylvania.  Lake Wallenpaupack was created in 1927 as part of the hydroelectric energy conservation project.  It covers 52 miles of shoreline and is at its longest point, 13 miles in length.  At its deepest point the lake is 60 feet deep and covers 5700 acres of total surface water.

Because Lake Wallenpaupack is one of the largest lakes in PA and sits along the Pocono Mountains, it is a very popular destination for travelers.  There are 6 recreation areas made up of dense forests, abundant wildlife, miles of walking trails, campsites and boat slips for visitor enjoyment.  There are a number of outfitters that offer activities for guests to partake in, such as kayaking, water skiing, parasailing, jet skiing, wakeboarding, and fishing among others.

With the Pocono Mountains sharing land with the lake region, many recreationalists enjoy hiking or biking the trails.  You’ll climb up and down the forested landscape as the trails lead you to some breathtaking waterfalls. Wild deer, various species of birds, and other wildlife inhabit the area in the woods and around the lake, perfect for bird watching and spectating.

There are plenty of places to stay near the lake including hotels closer to the city, and modern cabins entwined in the woods, as well as places to pop up your tent and sleep among the wilderness.  Campgrounds can be found at the base of the mountains or along the lake offering spectacular views of sunrise and sunsets.

Lake Wallenpaupack is a family friendly destination and has something for everyone to enjoy.
